We recently recruited two new roles here at JobAdder, and after conducting a poll with each of our interviewees, one thing was very clear – people want to work at JobAdder because we’re an awesome company. “Tell me something I don’t know, Manda” I hear you saying.

How did our candidates know we’re a killer cool company before they even arrived at our office? They researched us on social media! On Facebook you’re looking at updates from our frighteningly fun events, Twitter is churning out excellent industry-related content and we have a YouTube channel where you can check out our antics. Oh, not to mention our website has some great video testimonials on the Careers page (if you’re not onto video yet, you’re going to be left behind).

So, because we have such a great open and honest online presence, we attract the best talent. #nobrainer

Couldn’t you picture yourself as a Digital Nomad, just casually spending a couple of weeks working in Asia, or relocating to a gorgeous coastal haven like Trieste, Italy? Who wouldn’t want to work here!

Okay, we get it, JobAdder is a great place to work. But you already knew this even before reading my post because we’re doing our job right!

You cannot ignore social media branding. Put yourself in the position of a job seeker. Two identical jobs, same salary/description/location. One employer has a boring, beige website and no Facebook page. The other has a modern and informative website, a Facebook page bursting with content about their latest hackathon or EOFY celebrations, and a Careers page with a video about your next job and your hot new desk!

They both want to interview you on the same day at the same time. I know who I’m choosing..

You don’t want to miss out on great talent because your website hasn’t been updated since 1997, do you?

Anyone can set up a company Facebook page, but mastering your online presence is a MAJOR key to the success of your employer branding.

Take Atlassian as an example. They have a STREETS fridge in their office. How do I know this? I saw it on their Facebook! I also learned newbies call the place Fatlassian (it sounds like somewhere I really want to work!).

I follow them on Facebook because I’m engaged by the content they post, so if they happen to post a job ad don’t you think I’ll be intrigued to apply?

Guesst what? JIRA Software Cloud is now available in Portuguese, Korean, and Russian. Thanks @Atlassian! The first line of their Careers page is enough to make me want to work there. “We enable teams to do amazing things”. I want to enable people and I want it to be amazing!

The moral of the story is, you work at a great company representing a great brand. You know this – now let your candidates know it too!
